The product

What is Delimixx?

A CSV / TSV editor for Windows. It keeps the encoding, BOM and line endings as they were, writes an unedited file back byte for byte (under the conditions in the FAQ below), and keeps formatting such as colors, column widths and comments in a separate sidecar file instead of in the CSV.

Is it free?

There are two editions. Free needs no account and does not expire. Pro adds more tools and needs a paid license. See Pricing.

Which systems does it run on?

Windows 11 (64-bit). Windows 10 and earlier, macOS and Linux are not supported.

Which languages does the interface support?

English and Japanese. Delimixx starts in English. Choose 日本語 with the language switch at the top right of the welcome notice, or later in the settings, and your choice is remembered. Logs are in English; error messages follow the interface language.

What is in the Free edition?

Editing, safe saving, backups, encodings, delimiter detection, find and replace, one-column sort and filter, text normalization, structure check, tabs, split view and more. See Features for the full list.

Files and data

Does Delimixx write formatting into my CSV?

No. Colors, column widths, hidden rows and columns, comments and rules are saved in a sidecar file next to the CSV (<file>.cvdeco). The CSV holds only your data.

What is the .cvdeco file? Can I delete it?

It is the sidecar file where Delimixx keeps per-file settings. If you delete it, those settings (colors, widths, comments) are lost, but the CSV is not affected. If you send only the CSV to someone, they will not see your colors or comments. You can turn the sidecar off in Settings > General.

If I open a file and save it, does the file change?

If you made no edit, it is written back byte for byte (this holds with Save format on, the default; with the default quote settings and no per-column quote rules; and with the encoding, delimiter, BOM and line endings unchanged). After an edit, the whole file is written again: encoding, BOM, line endings and the final newline stay as they were, while unneeded quotes, empty quotes "", blank lines, rows with too few columns and mixed line endings are tidied. No value is lost. Switch Save format off in the settings to always normalize.

Does it turn 00123 or dates into numbers?

No. Values such as 00123, 1E5 and +81-90-… are kept exactly as written.

Which encodings are supported?

UTF-8 (with or without BOM), UTF-16, Shift-JIS, EUC-JP and JIS (ISO-2022-JP). Delimixx detects the encoding when it opens a file; if it guesses wrong, reopen the file with the encoding you choose. When you save, the encoding, BOM and line endings of the opened file are kept.

Are delimiters detected automatically?

Yes: comma, tab, semicolon and pipe. You can also choose one by hand.

How big a file can I open?

The whole file is loaded into memory, which needs much more memory than the file size. As a measured example, a file with one million rows and ten columns (about 70 MB) opened in about one second and used about 740 MB of memory on our test PC (a 2018 desktop with 32 GB of memory). Results differ by file and computer. Delimixx warns you before opening a file that may not fit in your memory. Files of several gigabytes are not a goal of this program.

Is a backup made before saving?

Yes, on by default. Each save writes a backup into a .delimixx-backups folder next to the file, or into one central folder you choose. You set how many generations to keep and when old ones are deleted.

Can it find rows with the wrong number of columns?

Yes. The structure check lists rows whose column count does not match, and Rainbow column colors make the drift easy to see.

Privacy

Are my files or my usage sent anywhere?

No. File contents, edits and usage are never sent to us, and the program has no telemetry. Free does not connect to the internet at all, unless you turn on the update check or press Check for updates; then it contacts a public server to look for a newer version. Activating a Pro license sends nothing, because the key is verified inside the app. While a valid Pro key is in use, the app also downloads a small signed list of revoked license keys about once every 7 days. Nothing that identifies you or your device is sent in that request, although the server may keep ordinary connection records such as an IP address. Only for a subscription key that has passed its expiry date, and only for 14 days, the app also asks a renewal server for a new key. It sends the key's identifier (an opaque ID), but no device ID, name or email address. One-time licenses never do this. See the Privacy Policy. The current prototype build (Free only) contains none of the Pro-related connections.

Installing and updating

Can I install the prototype and the release version at the same time?

The prototype is a ZIP with nothing to install: extract it into its own folder, and delete the folder to remove it. Builds in different folders can coexist, but they share your settings in %USERPROFILE%\.delimixx. The release version (Free and Pro) is the same product; how it is installed will be explained when it is released.

Windows shows a SmartScreen warning. Is the file safe?

Delimixx is signed, but a new publisher has no reputation with SmartScreen yet. Check the SHA-256 and the signature as described on the Download page, then choose More info and Run anyway.

How do I update?

Turn on the update check in the settings, or press Check for updates on the App Information page. Delimixx tells you when there is a newer version; you download it from the Download page yourself. Nothing is installed automatically. For the ZIP version, extract the new version into a new folder and delete the old folder when you no longer need it. Your settings are kept in %USERPROFILE%\.delimixx, so they carry over.

How do I remove Delimixx completely?

If you installed it from the MSI, uninstall it first in Windows Settings > Apps. If you use the ZIP, delete the program folder. If you activated Pro, also delete the license from the Windows Credential Manager. Settings are in %USERPROFILE%\.delimixx; delete that folder too. Backups and sidecar files are next to your own files and are not removed automatically.

Buying Pro

When can I buy Pro?

Pro goes on sale with the full release. The current prototype build is Free only.

What does Pro cost?

The prices have not been announced yet. Pro is planned as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time purchase, and the prices will appear on the Pricing page before Pro goes on sale.

Who sells Delimixx? Is my payment safe?

Paddle.com is our Merchant of Record. Paddle sells the license to you, takes the payment and handles taxes and receipts. We never see your card details.

Can I get a refund?

You can ask Paddle for a refund within 14 days of a payment. Paddle decides each request under its Refund Policy, and a request does not guarantee a refund, except where the law gives you a right to one (for example the statutory withdrawal right of consumers in the EU, the EEA, Switzerland and the UK). Refunds are handled by Paddle. See the Refund Policy.

How many devices can I use?

For personal use there is no limit. A license belongs to one person, who can use it on all of their own devices.

Can I use Delimixx for work?

Yes. Free costs nothing for business use. A Pro license belongs to one person, who can use it on all of their own devices. Anyone who uses Pro for work, whether freelance, contract or company work, on their own computer or a company one, needs their own license. We do not currently offer bulk purchase, invoicing or company contracts.

Do I need to be online to use Pro?

No. The license key is checked inside the app, offline, so no internet connection is needed to activate Pro or to use it while its key is valid. Delimixx goes online only for the update check, which is off by default (turning it on or selecting Check for updates contacts a public server to look for a newer version), and, while a valid Pro key is in use, to download a small signed list of revoked keys about once every 7 days. An expired subscription key also looks online for a renewed key, for 14 days.

What happens when my subscription ends?

Pro features stop (after the 14 days of renewal grace) and the app goes back to Free. Your files and data are never changed, and opening and saving stay available in Free. A one-time license does not expire.

How is a subscription key renewed?

You do not need to paste a new key. A monthly or yearly key has an expiry date. After it passes, if the subscription has been paid, the app gets a new key online automatically within 14 days. It checks when it starts and, while it keeps running in the system tray, every 6 hours during those 14 days, but never before the expiry date. While those 14 days run, the License page in the settings shows how many days are left. If it cannot get one within 14 days (for example, because the computer was not started), the key lapses and the app returns to Free, with your data untouched, and the License page says so. After that the app does not check by itself. If payment resumes, press Check again on the License page in Settings to turn Pro back on. One-time licenses and Free are never checked. The check sends the key's identifier (an opaque ID), not a device ID, name or email address. See the Privacy Policy.

Does the one-time purchase expire?

No. It is a perpetual license: Pro has no expiry date. (A license can still be revoked in cases such as a refund or misuse; see the Terms.)

My key is shown as revoked. What can I do?

A key is revoked after a full refund or a finalized chargeback, or in cases of misuse or a leaked key (see the Terms). If a revocation is cancelled, we remove the key from the revoked-key list. Then press Check again on the License page: the Software downloads the list again (it sends nothing), and Pro works again. Pro does not come back by itself; the list is read again only when you press the button. A key revoked after a refund or a finalized chargeback stays revoked: Check again does not bring it back. The License page also shows the date the revoked-key list was last checked. If you did not expect the revocation, press Check again; if the key is still revoked, write to support@delimixx.com.

I found a Delimixx license key published online.

If you find a Delimixx license key published online, please tell us at support@delimixx.com. We may revoke a shared or published key after human review of the individual case. The rightful owner will receive a replacement key. We do not offer rewards for reports. Revocation takes effect in the app only after it downloads a signed list containing that revocation.

Support

The window is blank, garbled or freezes. What can I do?

Delimixx draws with the graphics card by default. On some machines (an old graphics driver, a remote desktop, a virtual machine) that can fail. Open Settings > General > Rendering, choose Software and restart. If the window does not open at all, Delimixx starts again by itself in software mode; you can also start it with delimixx.exe --software-rendering. Software drawing can be a little slower with very large tables.

How do I have my data deleted?

Write to privacy@delimixx.com. If the license is still valid, deleting its record means the key stops working, so we first ask whether you agree. Payment records are kept by Paddle and are not ours to delete. See the Privacy Policy.

Where do I report a bug or ask for a feature?

See Support. You can write in English or Japanese; we reply in Japanese to messages written in Japanese, and in English to all others.
