Silent install for administrators

This page is for people who install Delimixx on many computers. It describes the MSI installer of the release version (Free and Pro). The ZIP is meant to be extracted and run; it is not covered here.

Before you start

• Windows 11, 64-bit. The installer installs for all users of the computer, so it needs administrator rights.
• Download the MSI from the Download page and check the SHA-256 and the digital signature the same way as for the ZIP.
• With the normal installer, each user accepts the Terms of Use on the license screen. A silent install (/qn) shows no screen, so by deploying it you accept the Terms for the installation and are responsible for making them known to the users.
• Pro license keys are not set by the installer. Each user enters the key in Delimixx. A Pro license belongs to one person; see the Terms of Use for company use.

Install

msiexec /i delimixx-<version>-full-x64.msi /qn /norestart /l*v C:\Temp\delimixx-install.log

/qn shows no window, /norestart prevents a restart, and /l*v writes a detailed log. Keep the log: it is the first thing to read if something fails.

Options

Property	Default	Meaning

ASSOCIATE_FILES	1	With 1, Delimixx is listed as a candidate for .csv, .tsv and .txt files (the "Open with" list and the Default apps settings). With ASSOCIATE_FILES=0 it is not listed. In both cases the default app of other programs is not changed. The choice is not remembered: give the same option again when you update.
REBOOT	ReallySuppress	The computer never restarts by itself. If a file is in use, the replacement is completed when the computer restarts, and the exit code is 3010. You can override it on the command line, for example REBOOT=Force.

Example without the "Open with" registration:

Update

Run the same command with the newer MSI. The old version is removed automatically. A version that is older than the installed one cannot be installed over it. If Delimixx is running in the background, the installer asks it to quit and waits up to 30 seconds; a program with unsaved tabs may ask the user to save first.

Remove

msiexec /x delimixx-<version>-full-x64.msi /qn /norestart /l*v C:\Temp\delimixx-remove.log

Point to the MSI file you installed with: the product code differs between builds. Removing the program does not delete the user's data in %USERPROFILE%\.delimixx, nor the backups and sidecar files next to the user's own files.

Exit codes

Code	Meaning
0	Success.
3010	Success; a restart is needed to finish replacing a file that was in use.
1603	Failure. For example, a newer version is already installed. See the log.
1618	Another installation is in progress. Try again later.
1638	Another version of the product is already installed.
1925	Not enough rights. Run from an elevated account.

Network

Free connects to the internet only when the user turns on the update check or presses Check for updates; that check contacts api.github.com (HTTPS). While a valid Pro key is in use, Delimixx downloads a small signed list of revoked keys from license.delimixx.com about once every 7 days. See the Privacy Policy for what is sent. If you filter outgoing traffic, allow license.delimixx.com (HTTPS) for Pro, and api.github.com if users should be able to check for updates. A key that was revoked and then released works again when the user presses Check again on the License page: the Software downloads the revoked-key list again and sends nothing.
